Today, I will share my insights on what shape you should choose for hangtags for any Home Decor products. How the pricing will be affected? What happens to Hangtags after the purchase?

Hi, I am Mohit Gopal, a UI/UX designer who has an experience in branding, logo designing, and website & application designing. I worked as a Technical Designer in one of the home decor brands in Defence Colony, Delhi, and I designed hangtags for them. (We tie hangtags along with a product.)

Whenever we buy anything from the market, we often get hangtags along with it. It’s basically a way to tell people which brand the item belongs to.

This is how a hangtag looks:

Key elements in a Hangtags are:

FRONT:

Brand Logo
Tag Line
Social Media Handles(@)
Website Link

BACK:

Categories
Partners
QR Code for the website or insta profile
Lines for the workers or the quality of the work done in that company/brand.

MARKET RESEARCH:
The next step is to choose big home decor brands and study their hangtags.

So, I started designing a few hangtags for my company. I came up with a lot of shapes and examples.

Shape Research

These were some amazing shapes of which we could have got our hangtags. So I tried designing just the basic hangtags to understand how our brand logo will look on different sizes and shapes.

Shapes finalized:

My designs

The next process we did was to check out the pricing, and availability of the shapes that we liked. We understood that having a different kind of hangtag can be a little expensive plus what is the point when a hangtag won't be able to fit with our product.

Final Shape:

Shape finalized. Copy variations.

Now, as the shape was finalized, I tried making a different and unique kind of hangtag. Do let me know what YOU think about it?

A hatke design:

One of the designs I made was not approved.

The reason for me to share it with you guys is to see the process and content I kept in my mind for the people to know the kind of products that we are selling just by having a look at our hangtags.

What’s unique in the above design?

  • The outlined products are from different categories.
  • QR code of the Instagram page.
  • What is our team’s vision?
  • The material our products are made of?

My mindset for creating this was to answer the questions that our customers might have, right?

So, when I was asked to find a different copy of this design, I finalized the text that stated how our product is hand-made. The design which was finally approved by my founders was the design below.

Approved design:

Now, as soon as the shape and copy were fixed, we sent these designs to the printer. It was them who then told us that the proper curve which is asking is something in which extra cost might be added. So we decided to not go for fully curved edges but just a small curve will also do.

Final printed design:
